StumbleUpon Stumbles Into eBay

The heavily-rumored acquisition of social sharing site StumbleUpon by eBay finally came to reality, with eBay giving out “an aggregate transaction value of approximately $75 million” for the site.

EBay announced it would pick up StumbleUpon for about $75 million. StumbleUpon originated in Canada, and provided a browser toolbar that allows users to click a button and find sites within their selected areas of interest. Those sites would be ones tagged by other StumbleUpon users, and each user can vote sites up or down when they appear in a Stumble.

StumbleUpon claims a userbase of 2.3 million.Stumbleupon is a brilliant downloadable toolbar that beds into your browser and gives you the chance to surf through thousands of excellent pages that have been stumbled upon by other web-users.

Next time you want to wander the Web, forget about Googling it. Stumble it.

Using search engines to locate relevant content typically means hunting through pages of results. Rather than searching for quality web sites, StumbleUpon members are taken directly to web sites matching their personal interests and preferences.
he StumbleUpon Toolbar is integrated with the user’s browser to allow for one-click access to quality web sites. A simple 2-level rating system gives users the opportunity to pass on or give their opinion on any webpage with a single click. These ratings also connect people sharing unique combinations of interests. Stumblers share their favorite web sites and interact with other users to further improve their web surfing experience.
